As a designer, I have benefited massively from the training, mentoring, advice and encouragement that I have received from other designers. I believe it is important and valuable to show the same amount of care and consideration for the next generation.

Through my work for English National Opera, I have taken on a new assistant designer each year for the ENO opera works project. This gives the successful applicant the experience of working on an opera production for one of the UK's leading companies, as well as creating a professional connection which has the potential for further development.

I also ran Scenehouse Intro, a one week theatre design summer school, each summer in Glasgow with Sarah Paulley for seven years. Designed for post-graduate creative types with no previous experience of theatre design, it was an ideal taster for those curious to know a bit more about the job. In the space of a very busy week, each member of the course was given an introduction to the approach and tools of design and realised their own design in model form by the end of the week.

I have also been a visiting tutor at institutions such as Central School of Speech and Drama.
